Norton is a cybersecurity and digital-safety brand with roots in consumer computer protection dating back to the early 1990s. Best known historically for Norton AntiVirus, the brand has evolved beyond traditional antivirus software into a broader portfolio covering device security, online privacy, identity protection and tools designed to help people navigate everyday digital risks.

About Norton

Norton’s consumer-security history took a major step in 1990, when Symantec acquired Peter Norton’s software company and incorporated Norton products into its portfolio. The following year, Norton AntiVirus was launched for PC, establishing the Norton name as one of the recognizable brands in consumer computer security.

Over the following decades, Norton expanded well beyond antivirus. After Symantec sold its enterprise-security business in 2019, its consumer operation became NortonLifeLock. NortonLifeLock later combined with Avast, and the parent company adopted the name Gen, while Norton continued as one of its principal consumer cybersecurity brands.

What Norton Offers

Norton’s current portfolio includes antivirus and malware protection, Norton 360 security plans, VPN services, password management, Dark Web Monitoring, AntiTrack, parental-control tools, mobile security and small-business security products. Feature availability can vary by plan, device and country.

The brand has also expanded its focus toward newer forms of digital risk. Current Norton 360 plans include AI-powered scam protection, while selected products combine device security with online privacy and identity-related monitoring and assistance.
