Iberia is a Spanish airline founded in 1927 and built around connecting Spain with international destinations. From its first scheduled service between Madrid and Barcelona, the brand developed into a major aviation business with a particularly strong relationship between Europe and Latin America, combining passenger travel with premium cabins, loyalty services and an increasingly digital travel experience.

About Iberia

Iberia was formally founded on June 28, 1927, as Iberia, Compañía Aérea de Transporte. Its first scheduled commercial flight took place on December 14, 1927, linking Madrid and Barcelona and establishing the foundation for one of Spain’s longest-running aviation brands.

International expansion followed over the decades. Iberia began regular services to European destinations and, in 1946, launched flights to Buenos Aires, strengthening the connection between Spain and Latin America that would become a defining part of its network identity. In 2011, Iberia and British Airways came together under International Airlines Group (IAG).

What Iberia Offers

Iberia provides passenger air travel across Economy, Premium Economy and Business cabins, alongside cargo and other aviation-related services. Its wider business also includes aircraft maintenance, while the group works with other IAG operations across cargo and airport services.

The travel ecosystem also includes Iberia Club, its loyalty programme based around Avios and Elite Points. Members can earn and redeem Avios across flights and partner services, including upgrades and other travel-related benefits.
