From Morocco to Star Academy
Bassma grew up in Morocco with an interest in singing, but her early plans also included studying medicine. She had begun medical studies in France when an opportunity to join Star Academy changed her direction.
She entered the sixth season of the televised music competition in 2009. The program brought together young performers from across the Arab world, giving them opportunities to work with musicians and perform before television audiences.
Bassma reached the final and finished in second place. Her performances introduced her voice to audiences beyond Morocco and created the possibility of pursuing a professional singing career.
She released music after the competition, including the song Mahal. But her recording career did not continue without interruption. She later stepped away from professional singing and devoted more time to other interests, particularly fashion and beauty.
The years away from music were not years away from creative work. She studied business and fashion, developed products and began building companies under her own name.
Building a Career in Fashion
Fashion became one of Bassma's main professional interests during her break from recording music.
She studied fashion design in Cairo and launched clothing projects associated with Moroccan style. Her collections included caftans and other garments influenced by traditional Moroccan clothing.
In 2017, fashion coverage documented a collection that included caftans, djellabas and abayas. Her designs brought familiar regional garments into a modern fashion context.
Her work also included Bassma Boussel Designs, a fashion venture discussed in later interviews.
In August 2024, Bassma told Femmes du Maroc that she remained interested in developing the fashion business but could not devote all her time to it. She said her mother could continue working on the brand while Bassma focused on her other responsibilities.
That interview confirms the project's place in her professional history. It does not establish the brand's full operating status in 2026, so her current business role in Bassma Boussel Designs should not be assumed from that earlier statement.
Bassma Boussel Cosmetics: Her First Beauty Brand
Bassma's work in beauty products began while fashion was already part of her career.
In July 2017, she introduced an argan oil skincare product developed under the name Bassma Boussel Cosmetics. She described spending about a year working on the product before its introduction.
The choice of argan oil reflected a connection with Moroccan beauty traditions. Bassma later expanded the brand into additional skincare and makeup products.
Bassma Boussel Cosmetics received regional beauty coverage in the following years. In 2020, Arab News included the brand in a feature on Arab beauty companies offering sunscreen products.
The brand also developed products for cheeks and lips. Its online store currently presents a makeup collection called Tintation, alongside skincare products and items based on ingredients associated with Morocco.
The retail collection includes liquid cheek and lip tints, makeup sets and face masks. These products are sold under the Bassma Boussel Cosmetics identity rather than through an unrelated brand endorsement.
Her role as founder is supported by both earlier reporting and her own later interviews. This distinguishes Bassma Boussel Cosmetics from fashion or beauty labels she may wear or feature in photographs.
Meraqelle: A Second Beauty Business
Bassma later developed another skincare brand, Meraqelle.
In her August 2024 interview with Femmes du Maroc, she spoke as the founder of both Meraqelle and Bassma Boussel Cosmetics. She described beauty entrepreneurship as a field that matched her interests and gave her opportunities to develop products outside entertainment.
Meraqelle's official website identifies the business as part of Bassma Boussel Holding. The company's public materials describe skincare products developed around selected ingredients and different skincare needs.
Its collection includes products named Rina, Calma, Dama and Argi, as well as skincare sets and other personal-care items.
The products are presented around concerns such as hydration, pigmentation and visible signs of skin aging. These descriptions reflect the company's marketing and intended product uses. They do not independently establish clinical effectiveness.
Meraqelle operates an online retail store with product information and purchasing options. The website also publishes promotional prices on selected items, although prices and purchasing conditions may change.
The creation of Meraqelle expanded Bassma's commercial activities beyond the products sold through Bassma Boussel Cosmetics. Both businesses operate in beauty, but they have separate brand identities, product collections and retail channels.
Returning to Music in 2024
After years focused on business and other commitments, Bassma returned to recording music in 2024.
In an interview with Femmes du Maroc that August, she explained that she had started singing again in the studio before deciding to produce original recordings. She was interested in songs with emotional depth and wanted her music to reflect different parts of her identity.
The comeback included material in Moroccan Arabic and Egyptian Arabic. Bassma spoke about growing up with Egyptian music while remaining attached to Moroccan singing traditions.
She released several singles during 2024, including Al Bedayat and Qadreen Ya Hob. These songs reintroduced her as an active recording artist rather than a former television competition contestant.
Her return also required building a new professional team. In her interview, she discussed working with producers and other specialists because managing music projects involved responsibilities different from running a beauty business.
Helm: Her 2025 Music Project
In June 2025, Bassma released Helm, a six-track EP.
The project included songs such as Abu Hob, Howa Elli Nesini, Leh Keda, Ya Khasara, Wesletni Shi Akhbar and the title track Helm.
The release gave her a larger body of music than the individual songs she had introduced during the previous year. It also allowed her to work across different styles while developing a new recording identity.
Her comeback was supported by music videos, interviews and social media promotion. These activities brought her creative work back to the audience that had first encountered her through Star Academy, while introducing her to listeners using contemporary streaming platforms.
Renaissance and Maintenant: Expanding Into French Music
In May 2026, Bassma released Renaissance, a song performed in French.
She discussed the recording in an interview with Billboard Arabia, describing the decision to sing in French and the work behind the release.
The song introduced another language into her professional discography. For an artist whose career began on Arabic television and later developed through Moroccan and Egyptian music, it opened a different creative direction.
In September 2026, Bassma shared studio updates from France while preparing another release. She announced that Maintenant would arrive on September 30.
Music platform listings confirm the release of Maintenant / Honeymoon on that date.
These recordings show that her return to music continued beyond the initial 2024 singles and the 2025 EP. By October 2026, she had released new material in both Arabic and French.
Big Ramy and Her First Film Role
Bassma has also expanded into acting through the Egyptian comedy Big Ramy, directed by Mahmoud Karim.
The film stars Ramez Galal and features a cast that includes Mohamed Anwar, Mohamed Abdel Rahman and other Egyptian performers.
In a June 2026 interview with ET بالعربي, Bassma discussed joining the film and what the experience meant for her as a performer whose earlier career had centered on music.
On October 8, 2026, Egyptian entertainment coverage reported that she had finished filming her scenes. She also shared behind-the-scenes photographs and spoke about completing her first film.
The project marks her first documented step into cinema. However, the available film database still listed Big Ramy as unreleased in October 2026. Completing filming should not be confused with a confirmed theatrical premiere.
Fashion Appearances and Brand Relationships
Fashion remains visible in Bassma's public career, even as music has become a major focus again.
In 2025 and 2026, fashion and entertainment publications covered her appearances at international events, including Paris Fashion Week.
Her clothing choices have included pieces from established fashion houses and independent designers. She has also appeared in jewelry and fashion editorials.
Those appearances reflect her public interest in fashion and her relationships with styling teams. However, wearing a designer's product or appearing in an editorial does not establish an ambassador appointment, an ownership interest or a paid partnership.
Any specific commercial relationship should be identified through an official campaign announcement or another reliable source before being presented as an active partnership.
Beauty Products and Public Offers
Bassma Boussel Cosmetics and Meraqelle both provide shopping opportunities through their online stores.
The Meraqelle website currently displays reduced prices on selected products and skincare sets. Readers can review the current collection through the Meraqelle official website.
These are promotions presented by the beauty business. Their availability, prices and delivery conditions should be confirmed through the store before purchase.
A promotion on a brand's website is not automatically a personal discount code shared by Bassma. Any creator-specific code needs separate confirmation from her public channels or the issuing brand.
Bassma Boussil on Famousi
Bassma Boussil's career has developed through music, fashion and the beauty industry. After her early success on Star Academy, she founded Bassma Boussel Cosmetics and Meraqelle, then returned to recording with new Arabic and French-language releases.
Her beauty businesses give followers products and brands connected directly to her professional work, while projects such as Helm, Renaissance and Big Ramy reflect her expanding entertainment career. Famousi covers these developments and the relevant public offers from her brands when their terms can be confirmed. Creator codes shared by Bassma can also be included when a current, reliable source establishes their availability.
